Elbert Muldrew "Drew" Ray, III

Elbert Muldrew "Drew" Ray, III, age 37, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Friendship Baptist Church in Sturgis, Mississippi, with Bro. Junior Davis, Bro. Jeremy McCrory, and Bro. Tri Nason officiating. The family will receive friends and family from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. A graveside service and interment will be Monday, February 20, at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Monroe, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in honor of Drew to Mercy House Adult and Teen Challenge, P. O. Box 266, Georgetown, MS 39078. Drew was born May 7, 1985, in Starkville, Mississippi, to Elbert Muldrew Ray, Jr. and Sandra Kaye Foster. He was a loving father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, and a friend to all he knew. To have known him was to have loved him. Drew grew up in Sturgis, Mississippi, and attended Sturgis Attendance Center, where he was an active member of the Sturgis baseball team. Drew’s heart was being a daddy to his daughter, Denley Blake Ray; his passion was singing, and he loved Auburn football. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Sturgis. He is survived by his daughter, Denley Blake-Brooks Ray of Pope, Mississippi; parents, Elbert Muldrew Ray, Jr. and Lori Ray of Monroe, Georgia; Sandra Foster of Ackerman, Mississippi; three brothers, John Alan Miller and wife, Beverly of Sturgis; Joseph Elijah “Eli” Ray of Monroe; and Christopher Greg Jones also of Monroe; two sisters, Melissa “Missy” Ray Bell and husband, Heath of New Albany, Mississippi; and Savannah Jones Hall and husband, Nick of Monroe; and his god-brother, CeCe Cork. Drew also leaves behind his loving nieces and nephews: Mayce (Roberto) Villanueva; Carley Bell; Treylan Bell; Raegan Miller; Kaige Miller; Lexi Miller; Dawson Hall; and Sawyer Ray Hall; and his great-nephew, Aspen Villanueva; as well as a multitude of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. Drew is preceded in death by his grandparents, Elbert Muldrew Ray, Sr. and Elizabeth Irene Ray; Willy Ray Trice and Evelyn Virginia Trice; great-grandparents Muldrew and Eddie Mae Ray; Charlie and Lodean Scarbrough; Milton and Viola Trice; and Claudis and Pearl Johns. Serving as pallbearers are Treylan Bell, Kaige Miller, Alan Blaine, Daniel Ray, Heath Ray, and John Parker. Services are under the direction of Nowell Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS.
