David Wylie

David Wylie, 64, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital—Golden Triangle in Columbus, Mississippi, with his loving family by his side. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 3 from 5 p. m. until 7 p.m. at Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 4 in the Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Sean Greer officiating. The family will also receive friends on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow the service in Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville. David was born May 24, 1960, to Gordon and Barbara Massie Wylie in Brinkley, Arkansas. He grew up on a dairy farm and that is where he developed his avid love for all facets of the outdoors. David enjoyed hunting; he also enjoyed fishing, especially with his lifetime fishing partner Randy Miller, with Bluff Lake being their favorite place to fish. Through the years, he was able to share his love and respect for the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. Bluff Lake was also his favorite place to take his grandchildren to observe nature, particularly the alligators in the lake and share a picnic with them. David was also a fan of horse racing; specifically, the buggy racing at the Neshoba County Fair each year. He and his mother, Barbara, over the years, developed a nightly ritual of saying the Lord’s Prayer together; sometimes by telephone, sometimes together in person. David was known for being able to fix air conditioners and refrigeration, a family skill that was taught to him by his father, Gordon. He, in turn, taught these HVAC skills to his sons and grandchildren; establishing a generational skill. David is survived by his wife, Beverly Wylie; and his children: Chris (Jennifer) Wylie; Patrick Wylie; and Christy Wylie (Phillip White) all of Louisville. One of his greatest joys was being “PaPaw” to his five grandchildren: Ayla Wylie; Chris Wylie, II; Wyatt Wylie; Joey White and Tommy White. He is also survived by his mother, Barbara Massie Wylie of Memphis, Tennessee; his brother, Douglas (Teresa) Wylie of Mountain View, Arkansas; and two sisters, Cindy Wylie and Sam Wylie both of Bartlett, Tennessee. David also leaves behind his loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Wylie. Serving as pallbearers are Chris Wylie, Patrick Wylie, Chris Wylie, II, Matt Boykin, Carter Grigsby, and Tyler Rose. Memorials in honor of David may be given to Massey Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses. Services are under the direction of Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS.
